In May 2018, I realized that I wanted to experiment with social media in a way that wouldn't disrupt my professional work, but still enable me to keep up with trends. I started an Instagram micro blog called Black Girls Eat DC. For the first year, I brought on one of my closest friends mostly to accompany me for dining experiences, but as I got more comfortable being an "influencer," I went totally solo. The growth has been 100% organic. I work with local and national food brands and my pictures have been featured in campaigns across the country. I've been on panels and featured in Thrillist, NBC News 4, and Huffington Post. In 2021, the brand name was changed to Black Girls Explore DC.
